Landing Station Organization (Day 16): 30 Day Organization Challenge

For today’s organization challenge, we are going to be cleaning/decluttering/organizing our landing station. We all have at least one space in our home that we drop everything when we get home. In our home, we have the shoe closet, the key holder, and my desk area. All three areas collect random things.

Whatever your space is, let’s go ahead pull everything out. I have an island in my kitchen where I tend to organize everything. If you have multiple areas, like I do, just do one at a time. If you have a large, beautiful mud room, just do one section at a time. But I want us to take everything out so we can wipe things down, mop, etc.

Shoe Closet

I started with our shoe closet. I pulled everything out and went through it. My son had one pair of shoes that no longer fit him, so we donated those. He has hit the “growing like a weed” phase! I store the couple of scarves, hats and gloves in this closet as well. Even though we live in Hawaii, I knew we wouldn’t be staying, and kept the ones we love. I went through them again anyway, just to make sure we still wanted to keep them. We also store all of our reusable bags in this closet. I went through them and got rid of a few of the ones I never use.

Key Holder

We tend to throw our keys, leash, and any paperwork that will fit, in our key holder. Somehow it manages to hold everything with a couple command strips. I pulled everything down, dusted it off, and threw away lots of papers! Guess papers that were once important, aren’t important anymore.

Desk

Ever since I moved my desk downstairs, my family throws EVERYTHING on my desk 🙂 So I pulled everything off and had my family put their stuff away. This is something I try to do every few days. I really like to keep my desk empty so I can focus while writing. Any space in my house that collects clutter, and is in our main living space, I clean off often. If it’s not clean, I get distracted and clean rather than write.

That’s it for today’s project. Not too much work today, but probably closer to 45 minutes by the time I cleaned and organized all three spaces.
