Media Center Organization (Day 14): 30 Day Organization Challenge

I went back and forth on whether or not to address organization of the media center. We have very few items stored in ours. Even with little stored in it, somehow random things still collect. And we still own a few physical movies, so I decided to add it for a quick organization project today. Since I gave you toys to mess with yesterday, I figured it was a good day to take it easy!

As with every other project, the first thing we are going to do is take everything out. We typically store DVD’s, laptops, video games, and random chargers that we find in our living room. The randomness of it all, frustrates me and I definitely need a better media center organization system.

Movie/Video Game Organization

I don’t know if we are the only ones, but we still own physical DVD’s. We haven’t gone through them in a couple years, so this is a good place to start. I decided to get rid of any movie I know we can watch on Netflix, unless it is a favorite. Additionally, I got rid of any of the movies the kids have grown out of. If you have any scratched movies, go ahead and pitch them too.

I don’t play video games, so I had my son go through the ones stored downstairs. Most of them are up in his room but he and his dad like to a play a few games together and they tend to trickle downstairs. He got rid of the scratched games, as well as the ones he no longer plays. This is one of those areas I don’t push him to get rid of more. They are relatively easy to store.

Remotes/Misc. Chargers

These are items that I know we will continue to throw in our media center. So, rather than fight our system, I decided to put some bins in drawers to help keep things organized. It was an easy fix, but I should’ve done that a while ago! I did remove the random extension cord that I think was left over from Christmas decorations. I also refilled the remotes with batteries, that were missing them. Any random items that end up in your media center, go ahead and put them where they belong.

My son also stores his school laptop in our media center, and I let him. Our kids do a hybrid virtual and in-person school, and he prefers to do school downstairs, on the virtual days. It’s temporary and I just like that he prefers to be around me during the day. So, he can have a drawer or two 🙂

Super simple! And not fancy at all. I actually have shelves that I need to purchase pins for, and we will have even more space. I totally forgot until I started working on this project. Guess that’s what happens when you shop secondhand. Hope today’s project was easy for you! I’ve added a few movie and media organization systems below. I think I am going to order some clear bins for ours!
